VOLLEYBALL NUNAVUT
Initially established in 1999, Volleyball Nunavut was resurrected in 2012 by a passionate group of enthusiastic individuals whose ultimate goal was to make the sport of volleyball the number one sport of choice for Nunavummiut.
Volleyball Nunavut is working towards being involved in every facet of the sport by offering programs for all skill levels, ages and categories. These programs will help both youth and adults develop a life-long passion for sport and recreation and promote a healthy lifestyle.

We strive to increase participation in sport with recreational, competitive and instructional development, which will be achieved through also providing quality administrative, youth, adult, coaching and officiating programs and services.
OUR MISSION:

"Creating quality opportunities toward the growth and development of volleyball in Nunavut."
OUR VISION:

Volleyball Nunavut will work towards making volleyball the preferred sport of participation and recreation for all people in Nunavut. Volleyball Nunavut also wants to be recognized as the leading territorial sports organization in the territory.

STRATEGIC PLAN:

Please see the VBNU 2020-2024 Strategic Plan, VBNU Board of Directors will be reviewing, developing and releasing a new version by May 2025.
TOURNAMENTS
Volleyball Nunavut hosts one major tournament yearly, the Territorial Championships.

The U18 Territorial Championships has two divisions (Boys Division and Girls Division).
This tournament is used to identify athletes for all future Team Nunavut Major Games such as Arctic Winter Games, North American Indigenous Games and Canada Games.
One of VBNU's mandates is to provide more resources for community tournaments. Starting in 2025 VBNU will be providing 'Community Event Grants' for communities wanting to host volleyball events. Click Here for more information on the 'Community Event Grants'
GRASSROOTS
One of Volleyball Nunavut's mandates is to host 2-4 Grassroots Clinics yearly in Nunavut communities.

These clinics are usually 5 days in length. Coaches host school clinics (usually in phys. ed classes) as well as community/club sessions.

School Clinics are introductory sessions and use a modified version of SMASHBALL to introduce, teach and engage youth to the sport of volleyball. (Learn more about SMASHBALL below)

Community/Club sessions focus on teaching skills and preparing coaches, athletes, and teams for the upcoming VBNU Territorials.

SMASHBALL aims to increase participation rates in volleyball through a modified game that makes the sport more enticing by focusing on the sport’s most exciting skill – the spike.

Smashball is equally fun and simple to engage children and adults of all ages.

HIGH PERFORMANCE
Volleyball Nunavut is proud to be affiliated with Team Nunavut and the Major Games Process. Over the past 12 years, Volleyball Nunavut has consistently participated in the Arctic Winter Games, North American Indigenous Games, Western Canada Games and Canada Summer Games.

The goal of the VBNU High Performance program is to offer our athletes an advanced level of training from some of the most elite coaches in Canada, and to give them an opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the Arctic and across Canada. This program gives Nunavut athletes the opportunity to represent their territory while building lifelong memories and friendships.
Volleyball Nunavut is very excited to announce that we will again be participating in the 2025 Canada Summer Games in both Indoor and Beach Volleyball.

COACHING
Coaching is the backbone of sport.
For VBNU, providing high quality coaching is key to our success, from preparing youth teams for competing in the 18U Territorials, to helping train athletes for Team Nunavut. VBNU understands that sport in Nunavut would not be able to operate without coaches.

Volleyball Nunavut is always looking for coaches!
