SPORT INTEGRITY
NU Sport is striving to make sport safe for all athletes, coaches, administrators, parents and volunteers.
NU Sport is dedicated to working with all stakeholders to create and provide a fun, safe and positive environment for all to participate.

Practicing Safe Sport focuses on appropriate and ethical relationships between all participants by supporting everyone physically, socially, mentally and emotionally.
NU Sport's plan for safer sport consists of:

AWARENESS
The first step to establishing Safe Sport is AWARENESS. NU Sport will work to ensure that all stakeholders (athletes, coaches, administrators, officials and parents) have the knowledge to understand the difference between acceptable and unacceptable behaviours in sport.
TRUE SPORT
True Sport principles help us build the sporting environment we want.

The seven True Sport Principles are the foundation of good sport.
All True Sport Principles must be present in the sport experience at all times, in the right balance and proportion, at all levels of competition, to foster a quality sport experience.
COMMIT TO KIDS
Commit to Kids provides organizations with information on the issue of abuse, which forms the basis for educated policies and procedures — from hiring, screening and training staff, to reporting issues.
This enables all employees and volunteers throughout an organization to uphold standards of conduct that protect children and youth in their care by focusing on healthy interactions between adults and children.
RESPONSIBLE COACHING MOVEMENT
The Responsible Coaching Movement invites all coaches and sport organizations to learn and apply consistent safety principles.
It includes three distinct pillars, each serving to create a sport environment that is Safe, Smart, and Secure.

The three pillars are:
-
Rule of Two
-
Background Screening
-
Ethics Training
CANADIAN CENTRE FOR ETHICS IN SPORT
The CCES is an independent, national, not-for-profit, multi-sport organization with a vision of fair, safe, accessible, and inclusive sport for everyone.
We believe the fundamental purpose of sport can and should be to make a positive contribution to Canadian society and that ethical sport is the best way to achieve that.
TRAINING AND PREVENTION
NU Sport believes providing training for all sport leaders is the best approach in prevention for all abuse in sport. Everyone who is in involved in the delivery of sport should have the proper knowledge and tools to provide safe sport environments for all Nunavummiut.
Starting in 2025 the Government of Nunavut - Sport & Recreation Division and NU Sport will be requiring everyone involved with Sport in Nunavut to take Safe Sport training. Each sport pathway will have required and suggested training to complete.

To view what each stakeholder requires for training, click on your pathway below.
The following links all provide opportunities for leaders of all levels to increase their knowledge through training.
SAFE SPORT TRAINING

Safe Sport Training was developed to help anyone involved in sport — whether you have direct contact with athletes or work in the background — to promote physical, psychological, and social health, in line with the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport.
RESPECT IN SPORT
The Respect in Sport Activity Leader/Coach Program educates youth leaders, coaches, officials and participants (14-years and up) to recognize, understand and respond to issues of bullying, abuse, harassment and discrimination (BAHD). Our Activity Leader and Parent Programs are the Safe Sport Canada solution!
NCCP MAKE ETHICAL DECISIONS
The National Coaching Certification (NCCP) offers coaches the opportunity for training and evaluation in ethical decision-making through the NCCP Make Ethical Decisions training, and online evaluation.

By successfully completing the NCCP Make Ethical Decisions training, coaches will be fully equipped to handle ethical situations with confidence. The training helps coaches identify the legal, ethical and moral implications of difficult situations that may present themselves in the world of team and individual sport.
NCCP CREATING A POSITIVE SPORT ENVIRONMENT
The CCES is an independent, national, not-for-profit, multi-sport organization with a vision of fair, safe, accessible, and inclusive sport for everyone.
We believe the fundamental purpose of sport can and should be to make a positive contribution to Canadian society and that ethical sport is the best way to achieve that.
DISPUTE RESOLUTION AND REPORTING
Sport Organizations in Nunavut from the community to the territorial level may need to make decisions, manage disagreements and/or take action against members for unacceptable behaviours. This can affect all stake holders associated with sport.

It is the sport organization's responsibility to ensure all individuals know the rules, know where to find and access rules, and understand the consequences when they are not respected.
The first step in this this process is to understand the difference between Dispute, Misconduct and Maltreatment.
